WHO IS SANA?
Sana is originally a New Yorker, but she has recently moved to New Jersey. Even though Sana has a degree in Computer Science and experience in IT Project Management, she has always been interested in interior design and home décor. A Piece of My Glam Home was founded as an inspirational home décor Instagram page in 2019, which turned into a business offering interior designing consulting services.
Interior design to Sana is blending different elements from several decorating styles together. She believe your home should reflect your personality and style, regardless of your budget.
HOW DID SANA REALLY TRANSITION INTO HOME DÉCOR?
Sana had been working in IT since she got out of college, but she decided that IT was just so stressful! After moving to New Jersey, she decided it was time to take a break from IT and start spending more time with her kids at home. Since Sana was home more, she decided to start a home décor page as a hobby and to scroll through IG finding other home inspiration! Sana’s husband truly was the one who encouraged her to take her home décor account beyond a hobby. July 1, 2020 was Sana’s 1 year account anniversary and she is so grateful for how far she has come and the friends she has made along the way.
Sana has had her blog 6 months to date and says she really tries to post 1-2 times a month. She also enjoys writing blog posts for other companies who, in turn, post her article on their website! This is just another way to get out there.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GROW ACCORDING TO SANA?
Though Sana doesn’t post to her social media every single, she believes consistency is key! An account will not grow if it’s only featuring 1-2 posts per month. She encourages those who aren’t posting consistently to at least show up on their stories! If she knows she won’t be able to post to her IG, she definitely posts stories to make sure she doesn’t lose followers. Stories are just as important as posts! Being real and genuine on posts and stories is also key to growth! Followers like relatable content. Lastly, hashtags! Research and learn your hashtags because they truly make a difference in posting and engagement.
HOW DID SANA BEGIN HER E-DESIGN BUSINESS?
Sana randomly posted on her account and tagged her city and state, Princeton New Jersey and was approached by her first e-design client! This is how it all began! Now, Sana has a website that explains her e-design in full detail when a client wants to work with her. Her entire e-design process is laid out online and you can find it here!
WHAT ARE SANA’S TIPS FOR SOMEONE STARTING THEIR OWN ACCOUNT?
As Sana said above, always utilize the story feature on your Instagram profile! She says whether it’s a personal home renovation, an inspirational account, or life happenings, it’s important to post on stories! Sana personally shares more inspirational homes on her stories more than anything else. She also reminds us to ALWAYS tag the account you are sharing because giving credit is key. Not only do stories increase engagement, they also bring new followers! Sana also recommends adding at least one hashtag to stories as well as tagging a location! This gives a better opportunity of getting your stories out there.
Also, never be afraid to reach out to a company for a possible collaboration opportunity! Companies won’t always reach out to you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t form a relationship and be partners with a company you love.
HOW MANY HASHTAGS DOES SANA RECOMMEND USING?
Though Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags, Sana’s magic number has always been 29! She says she has been using that amount from very early on. After doing hashtag research and watching YouTube videos on this topic, Sana realized that the more hashtags you use, the more exposure you will get! Sana says her main goal is to be on the explore page as much as possible, so hashtags are super important.
Also, another pro tip from Sana: make sure to switch up your hashtags for each of your posts! Don’t always use the same ones on each post. If you are repeating hashtags over and over, IG will actually decrease your engagement.
