WHO IS AMY?
Amy Wilson has been styling homes for over 30 years. After receiving a BFA in Fine Arts from Brigham Young University, Amy created “Amy Wilson Designs” in 1992. Designing and selling a couple hundred thousand products worldwide became her focus through the 90’s as she helped shape the look of the craft industry. Feeling the need to “put it on the shelf,” Amy turned her talents to volunteering and focused on work as a 3-year production director of One Voice Children’s choir, costumed 22 musicals, and enjoyed time being a golf and dance mom. Amy loves the magic of working creatively with others. After raising 5 children to adulthood, Amy now enjoys focusing on Instagram. She enjoys working with companies to showcase their vision with their products in her home. Amy thrives on holiday cheer and shares her love of “home sweet home” on KSL Studio 5 television and through Instagram!

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE AMY TO ACQUIRE ALL OF HER CHRISTMAS DECOR?
Amy says that she is 51 and has been decorating trees for two decades. She has a friend who has a very big home and Amy had the opportunity to do 15 trees for her house in three days from start to finish. From nutcrackers themes to Santa themes and other themes, they had so much fun creating Christmas cheer. She loves that her grown children will always have the memories of a Christmas tree in every room.
HOW HAS THIS YEAR AND COVID CHANGED CHRISTMAS DECOR AND HOME DECOR?
Amy says that this year, she’s noticing more and more people are yearning for a “home sweet home” feel. Since we are all quarantined, people are more interested in polishing their environments. She’s noticed a change this Christmas with people focusing more on peace and joy and those internal feelings. Amy says we’re “setting the stage” and pushing the details because those things bring joy.
WHY DID AMY START HER PAGE?
Many years ago, Amy started designing for the craft industry. While she was putting herself through school, she worked at a floral shop where she learned so many ways to be creative. She loved working with so many different types of people and gaining experience from many different creative outlets. After starting her Amy Wilson Designs business, she was designing books, posters, prints, to name a few all while having children! Her business was like having a sixth child and she became so overwhelmed with it all. Amy decided to put her business on the shelf and come back to it later until about 2 and a half years ago. Once her youngest was a senior in high school and she had a bit more free time, she knew it was time to start it up again. One of her daughters told her it was “time to find Amy.” She felt so relieved after hearing this and started her journey back up and has pursued this passion ever since.

WHAT IS AMY’S JOURNEY ON TV?
Amy feels so blessed about being on TV because this was a once in a lifetime opportunity! She began her page in 2018 as an empty nester approach. She noticed people responding really well to her porch photos, so she started sharing more about that. KSL Studio 5 television reached out to Amy and wanted her to talk about her home decor. She tends to do most of the fall months on TV, however, KSL did come to her home recently to do a home tour with her Christmas trees! Though she loves KSL, she is going to take a bit of a break on TV since it’s a lot of work and exhausting!
WHAT ARE AMY’S TIPS FOR PEOPLE WANTING TO START THEIR OWN HOME DECOR?
Don’t be afraid of the mistakes you will make along the way! Back when Amy was designing, she found that sometimes when she would make a mistake, there would actually be a better outcome she didn’t see coming!
Don’t sit and wait to start! Granted, you need to do some basic planning, but don’t keep pushing it off. If you feel that social media is for you, make a goal of a date you want to start, and just go for it. Don’t be afraid of starting and be true to yourself!
For Instagram, always look at your insights. Insights will give you an idea of what is attracting people and which posts and content your followers actually enjoy! You can see which posts are top rated so you can analyze your page. You can then create your own personal rules and you know what your money shots are.
Consistency is extremely important as well. Amy posts two times a day, every morning being her first post of the day unless she’s too tired. But, if she doesn’t get something up on her feed in the morning, she always makes sure she at least has something on her stories.
