We are all spending a lot more time at home this last year working, and I wanted to share some home office decor tips that will help elevate and organize your office space!
Over the last year and a half my office has transformed from a spare room to one of my favorite rooms in my house. This room has had quite the journey but over time I have refined it and now I am in love. Here are some home office decor tips that can help you get your home office to a more comfortable and inviting space.
For reference here is where this space started! Yes it was a teenage boys room when first purchased our house. It was brown on brown!!
Before the transformation!

The first step in the transformation is adding color!
I took the first step by painting it a blue color that I didn’t color match and it turned into this! Live and learn right. Always get a paint sample first. I was hoping for a grey-blue but instead, I painted it baby boy blue. We all make mistakes right. You can not make this mistake by purchasing a white poster board, buying some different sample paint colors from your favorite paint store, and then apply your sample paint onto the poster board. This will give you the true color of the paint. Check on your samples throughout the day and see if they change colors during different times throughout your day. Not long after this, we actually moved to Dallas and rented out this home, and about a year and a half ago we moved back and decided to renovate our rental and that is when the transformation really began! Once again, I wanted to neutralize this room, so I painted it Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. Actually, we painted the main areas of the home this color, and I love it. For me, it’s the perfect white. Next, we ripped out the entire downstairs flooring from this dark brown to a neutral grey. This finally gave me a base that I could expand on.
While the renovations were going on, I knew I wanted a unique desk, so I searched the Facebook marketplace and found one I fell in love with. I knew it would be a DIY project, but the result gave me the statement piece to decorate around when beginning your office renovation or refresh starts with an inspiration piece. In every room I decorate, it starts with one item, and I decorate around that. That item can be a piece of furniture, an accessories item, or a decorative piece you saw on Instagram or Pinterest. You never know when inspiration hits, but when it does, use that inspiration piece and decorate around it! Check out the video below to see the desk transformation and my inspiration for my entire office design.

Once I painted the desk, and the flooring was installed. The walls were painted white, and the doors were painted black. I finally felt like the room was coming together.
The second step is accessorizing. Let’s go shopping!
Next, I went shopping for accessories, and I found some chairs at Pier 1 on clearance for 100.00 each! They added some luxury that much needed to the room.
I then hung some white velvet curtains and curtain rods from Target! I was able to collaborate with Boutique rugs for this plush rug. I then repurposed a bookcase by adding it to space for some needed storage. Finally, I added some family photos to personalize my office. My family is the reason I work so hard. A great tip for any office space add that extra touch of personalized photos. It could be your family, friends, and even your fur babies. Just stopping and looking at these photos throughout your workday can bring you some peace.

The third step of the office transformation! Adding a bold accent wall!
Even though this space improved dramatically, I wanted to warm things up a bit and add some additional storage. Spending so much time in my office, the all-white felt a bit stark, and I really wanted to warm it up a bit. So I was super excited to partner with Urban walls on a fun mural called West of Eden. This added a layer of fun and whimsy I needed in my office to be creative and really claim this space as my own.

I also switched out the rug added a mirror to reflect the light in the room, and added a larger console for extra storage. Even with all the extra storage, I still destroyed this space once a month while creating my Instagram content. So one helpful tip is at least once a week, pause, take a minute and pick up, vacuum, and dust your space, so you have a clean and tidy work environment. I like to do this on the weekends that way I can start my Monday off right!

The fourth step of turning my home office into a functional workspace was to declutter as much as possible!
Once Covid hit and we were on lockdown I began creating Instagram courses and started a podcast, I needed this space to help me run my personal Instagram brand, create my courses, and start my Podcast called Social with Lisa! That meant I needed more storage. Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of this project, but I installed multiple shelves into the closet. This gave me a ton of space to add all the items I needed to create my DIY’s. I used dollar store storage bins to organize all the glitter, spray paint, and other essentials. I also pulled out all of my faux florals and stored them in my spare shower that no one uses. This gave me more room to add shelves and bins. Check out my TikTok video, where I show you all the different areas I organize my decor and ultimately freed up space for my home office. When decluttering your office, think about the essentials you need and then remove anything that doesn’t serve your office needs. This will help you have a clear office and clear mind while working!
Finally, the transformation almost two years in the making!
My home office has come along way and has had multiple transformations. This is my most current design and It’s not changing anytime soon. I was able to add a much-needed fandlier in here! It gets hot in AZ. Updated the chair and added a plush rug. This helpss with my audio when recording my podcasts!
